How We Know the Bible is from God

1. Fulfilled Prophecy

· The Bible contains hundreds of specific prophecies written before the events they describe.

· These prophecies are detailed, verifiable, and historically fulfilled, not vague predictions.

·  Examples include:

· The rise and fall of empires (Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome).

· The rise and fall of world leaders such as Alexander the Great, Nero, and Domitian.

· The destruction of cities like Nineveh, Tyre, and Jerusalem.

· Detailed Messianic prophecies fulfilled in Jesus (His lineage, place of birth, place of death, burial, and resurrection, etc.).

· No other book offers verifiable predictive prophecy at all, let alone on this scale.

 2. Unified Message

·  Written over 1,500+ years

·  By 40+ writers

·  On three continents

·  In three languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek)

· By authors from vastly different backgrounds (kings, shepherds, fishermen, prophets, physicians)

·  Yet it presents one unified storyline:

·  Creation → Fall → Redemption → Restoration

·  No contradictions in facts or doctrine, even with such scope and diversity.

3. Historical Accuracy

·  The Bible is real history, not mythology, accurately recording:

·  Nations, kings, cities, customs, and wars.

· Details that archaeology has repeatedly confirmed (often long after skeptics denied them).

· Archaeology has never conclusively disproven a single historical claim of Scripture.

· Men like Sir William Ramsay, a skeptical archaeologist, became convinced of the Bible’s accuracy after trying to refute the Bible.

4. Manuscript Evidence (Textual Reliability)

·  The Bible is the best-attested ancient document in human history.

·  New Testament:

· Over 5,800 Greek NT manuscripts (plus over 24,000 total when including other languages), far surpassing any other ancient text in both quantity and extremely short time gaps to the originals.

·  Earliest copies date within decades of the originals.

·  Old Testament:

· The Dead Sea Scrolls demonstrate that the Hebrew Scriptures were preserved with remarkable accuracy across a manuscript gap of over 1,000 years, confirming the faithful transmission of the Old Testament text for nearly two millennia.

·  No other ancient work comes close in quantity, age, or consistency.

5. Scientific Foreknowledge

· The Bible is not a science textbook, yet when it touches on scientific matters, it is accurate:

·  The Earth is suspended in space (Job 26:7).

·  The water cycle is explained (Eccl. 1:7; cf. Job 36:27-28).

·  The “paths of the sea” were discovered in 1847 after reading Psalm 8:8.

·  It never teaches outdated scientific errors common in ancient pagan writings.

6. Moral and Spiritual Depth

· The Bible exposes the true nature of man—sinful, accountable, and in need of redemption.

·  It teaches a moral standard that transcends cultures and time.

·  Its teachings have transformed individuals and societies for centuries.

·  It condemns its own “heroes” honestly (Moses, David, Solomon, Peter).

7. The Identity of Jesus Christ

· The Bible is confirmed by all the evidence above, and it confirms that Jesus is truly the Son of God.

·  Jesus is the central figure of the Bible (Jn. 5:39).

·  His life fulfills hundreds of Old Testament prophecies written centuries earlier.

·  His resurrection is supported by:

·  Eyewitness testimony

·  Early historical sources

·  The transformation of His followers

Conclusion

The Bible is not accepted by blind faith. It stands on evidence:

·  Fulfilled prophecy

·  Unified message

·  Historical accuracy

·  Overwhelming manuscript support

·  Moral authority

·  Undeniable impact

If the Bible were not from God, there is no rational explanation for its existence, preservation, accuracy, and power.
